A modernist villa facing Saint-Tropez

This superb modernist villa designed by the architect Pierre Tobolka has been completely rehabilitated and enjoys an exceptional setting in a private estate, 300 meters from the beach.

The house has a modern aesthetic that evokes the architecture of 1950s American villas. The geometric composition of volumes with clear cut-outs, typical of Pierre Tobolka’s architecture, creates a sculptural whole. Great attention was paid to the choice of materials. The whiteness of masonry blends with local stone and glass walls to promote the harmonious integration of nature into living spaces.

Pierre Tobolka

Active from 1956 to 1968, the architect Pierre Tobolka played a leading role in the modernization of domestic architecture in Nice. He mainly designed private residences on the heights of the City of Angels. He also renovated two hotels in Nice, including the Riviera. It is close to and contemporary with the avant-garde experiments conducted by the artists of the Nice School at the time.

Breaking with the art deco style practiced by his predecessors from Nice, Rivieri and Aubert, Pierre Tobolka’s constructed work is inspired, through its assertive minimalism, by the experiments of the Bauhaus or Stijl: plasticity of square volumes on the façade, corner windows, running balconies…

In 1962, he built the Villa L’Escapade in Juan les Pins, in a contextual approach with organicist accents, which recalls some American villas of Richard Neutra, but also the constructions of Lefèvre-Devaux in Cap Bénat.
