An apartment in the tallest residential tower in France !
This corner apartment on the 42nd floor of Résidence Défense 2000, crowned the tallest residential skyscraper in Europe when it was built in 1974, is one of the highest apartments in France. It offers breathtaking views of La Défense as well as Paris and its monuments, with the Eiffel Tower perfectly framed from both the living room and the bedroom.
The apartment features a spacious, well-designed layout that can easily adapt to any lifestyle. Every room is flooded with natural light thanks to the large floor-to-ceiling windows, which can be safely opened wide. It offers a unique way of living, where the sky and the city become a permanent spectacle.
A “vertical community”
Designed by architects Michel Proux, Jean-Michel Demones, and Jean-Michel Srot, and built in 1974, Défense 2000 Tower (also known as Tower PH3 – Puteaux, the municipality where it is located, Housing, the 3rd building permit of this type issued by the Établissement Public d’Aménagement de la Défense) is now considered the tallest residential tower in France. It is described as a “vertical community”, standing 134 meters tall with 47 floors housing 370 apartments and over 1,200 residents. The ground floor is occupied by a nursery school.
The tower is constructed of concrete around a central core. Its façade features transverse walls that widen towards the base, serving as structural bracing. The lead architect, Jean-Michel Proux, drew inspiration for the design from Chicago’s Chase Tower (1969, 259 meters tall).
Michel Proux
Architect Michel Proux is well-versed in high-rise housing projects (IHG) and podium-level urban planning.
In 1966, he took the lead on the redevelopment of the Beaugrenelle district. During the 1970s, he simultaneously worked on the Athènes, Mexico, Londres, Helsinki, and Sapporo towers while helping develop the Olympiades district with architect Michel Holley.
In 1974, he partnered with architects Jean-Michel Demonès and Jean-Michel Srot for the Défense 2000 Tower project. He later collaborated with Michel Herbert on the iconic Manhattan office tower, also located in La Défense.
