Description

Art Deco inspiration in Provence

Built in 1938, this villa adopts an Art Deco style rooted in the regionalist tradition of Provence. Located on the heights of La Ciotat, it offers framed views of the Mediterranean.

Located in a plot of 2,045 m 2, this villa has an area of about 300 m2 on two levels.

The villa is accessed by a large porch leading to a covered terrace. This level houses the living areas. A long corridor serves on one side the large living room integrating a living room and a dining room; and on the other an equipped kitchen with pantry and access to the outside as well as a bedroom and a toilet.

Upstairs, the sleeping area has four bedrooms: a suite with a balcony and a bathroom, a bedroom also having access to the terrace and two others overlooking the garden. A bathroom is equipped on this level.

This property also benefits from a caretaker’s house and a garden shed.

A cellar completes the whole.

Located in the sought-after area of Peymian on the heights of La Ciotat, the property takes place in a green residential environment just 5 minutes from the city center by car or public transport.

It takes advantage of the proximity to the coast and beaches and the quiet environment of the neighborhood.

Provençal regionalism in the 1930s

On the façade, the architect chose a vocabulary at the crossroads of Provençal regionalism and Art Deco. This villa incorporates the typical vocabulary of a bastide: the roof characterized by its four sides, the round bays, and the canal tiles give to the whole a strong Provençal identity. From a purely aesthetic point of view, the original shutters with shades of lavender abound in this sense.

This corpus of vernacular references perfectly harmonizes with the Art Deco lines of the house. From the outside, the porch is framed by two columns and gives the entrance a sought-after monumentality in the 1930s, just as the exposed stone base anchors the construction on its site.

An assertive aesthetic

The Art Deco style is mainly deployed inside the villa. One of the most remarkable features of the site is the quality and diversity of the original soils. Beyond the decorative aspect, they are an important part of the identity and spirit of the house by preserving the link to the tastes of the 1930s.

Chambered tiles with geometric patterns, checkered, turquoise cabochons or yellow and green ceramics characterize every room of the villa. In real ornaments, these tiles are reminiscent of those of the Hotel Martel realized in Paris by the architect Robert Mallet-Stevens in 1926. These references testify to the prestige and refinement of the house’s sponsors.
