Constructed over fifteen years starting in 1964, the Grande Résidence is the first real estate development and the most ambitious work of Yves-André Parquet, its designer. Built on the site of a former villa and its park, its construction coincided with the urban renewal of Menton’s waterfront, marked by the replacement of older villas with modern, high-end residential complexes.

The project faced significant economic challenges due to inflation and the instability following May 1968. Ultimately completed by a second developer, the Grande Résidence remains one of the most remarkable examples of residential modernism on the French Riviera.

On a grand scale, the complex adapts to the steep slope of the land through a series of terraced buildings. The long facades, widely open to the landscape, maximize natural light and distant views, while generous outdoor spaces extend each residence toward the sea. The common areas retain several original frescoes by Parquet, testaments to his artistic vision for the residence.

A draftsman turned real estate developer, Yves-André Parquet designed numerous buildings for developers on the French Riviera before launching his own projects.

Influenced by Le Corbusier’s theories, he favored open volumes, large bay windows, horizontal lines, and a strong indoor-outdoor connection. His notable works in Menton include several residential complexes that shape the city’s urban landscape : Hawaï, la Grande Palmeraie, the Florentina, and his most ambitious project, the Grande Résidence.
