Description

A modernist villa with views of Montagne Sainte-Victoire

EXCLUSIVE – This superb house with its cubic volumes was built in 1968 by architect Jean-Pierre Frapolli, in a dominant position at the top of a hill wooded with tall pine trees.

The property comprises a 183 m² main house and a 65 m² caretaker’s cottage, set in 11,540 m² of grounds with a swimming pool.

The main house is almost entirely on one level. The entrance hall opens onto a central patio and distributes a day area and a night area.

The day area features a living room with a monumental fireplace and minimalist lines, and a dining area. The high ceilings are accentuated by skylights, and the spacious rooms open out onto superb sun terraces thanks to large sliding glass doors with wooden frames. A gentle wooden staircase gives access to a mezzanine with terrace, converted into a relaxation area with library. A separate kitchen with dining area and a separate bedroom with en suite shower room complete this wing.On the other side of the hall, served by a corridor winding around the central patio, the sleeping area comprises three bedrooms with built-in wardrobes, a bathroom, a shower room and a separate toilet. A fourth independent bedroom with storage and shower room completes the ensemble. Each bedroom opens onto the garden through large bay windows.

The different volumes of the house are organised around a central, fully-glazed, planted patio, which acts as a light well and diffuses soft, natural light into the rooms. Numerous windows provide views of the park, the sky and the treetops. The interior spaces alternate between white surfaces and luxurious cedar panelling, creating a luminous, warm and serene atmosphere.

The caretaker’s cottage or guest house, of the same style, comprises a kitchen with lounge and two bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. Set back slightly at the entrance to the property, it offers the owners complete privacy.

Modernist architecture with a Mediterranean accent

The villa is built in a dominant position in the middle of 1.1 hectares of pastoral meadows of wild grasses and field flowers, offering magnificent views of Sainte-Victoire. It has a 12 x 6 m swimming pool with teak decking.

The house has a geometric silhouette formed by the arrangement of different cubic volumes, evoking the traditional architecture of the southern Mediterranean basin. The texture of the rough concrete, which bears the imprint of the wooden formwork used during construction, is visible beneath the ochre rendering, emphasising the verticality of the volumes and guiding the eye towards the sky. The opacity of the architecture, seen from the outside, contrasts with the transparency, clarity and openness of the interior spaces.
