The Architecture de Collection team was shocked and saddened to learn of the death of architect and historian Jean-Louis Cohen on 7 August.
A leading intellectual figure on the French research scene, a specialist in 20th-century architecture and the founding father of the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine, Jean-Louis Cohen has distinguished himself over the last five decades by his extraordinary commitment to safeguarding modern heritage at an international level.
His cross-disciplinary work, focusing on the importance of the link between architecture, society and politics, formalised the foundations of comparative architecture and contributed to the emergence of fundamental research in architecture. Driven by a profound desire to pass on knowledge, Jean-Louis Cohen is the author of more than forty works, published in many countries and translated into several languages. Throughout his career, he has taught at the highest level and curated exhibitions. His most recent exhibition, Paris Moderne 1914-1945: architecture, design, film, fashion, opened on 21 July at the Power Station of Art in Shanghai, where it can be seen until 20 October 2023.
