On Friday 3 July, Espace Sauzet & Carballar and Architecture de Collection organised a reception in the personal house of Maurice Sauzet. Let’s take a look back at a luminous evening that brought together around one hundred guests – clients of both agencies, architects, art collectors, journalists and architecture enthusiasts around the same ambition: to celebrate and promote architecture.

An exceptional partner evening
Placed under the sign of friendship, this meeting was an opportunity to present the partnership forged between the two agencies, around a high idea of transmission, and for Maurice Sauzet, to introduce Camille Carballar who succeeds him at the head of the agency.
Clients, friends and partners met in the architect’s personal house, an exceptional place and a true manifesto of his conception of architecture. Facing a panoramic view in the heart of a garden planted with Mediterranean species, a cocktail dinner, designed in partnership with the local wine estate Domaines Bunan, allowed to extend the exchanges in a friendly atmosphere.

The evening was marked by several speeches. Maurice Sauzet, who is celebrating his 99th birthday this year, first addressed the guests, reflecting on the relationships forged over time with his clients, friends and partners, and recalling how these relationships, often born from the commissioning and design of houses, have nourished his career.
He then recalled the foundations of his approach: natural architecture. This theory, developed with the geographer Augustin Berque and tried many times, favors the relationship between man and space, beyond facades or proportions, inviting a sensitive immersion in the landscape.
Maurice Sauzet finally introduced Camille Carballar, to whom he entrusts the reindeer of the agency, praising her commitment and the work accomplished at her side for several years. The latter evoked in her turn, not without emotion, their meeting, the teachings transmitted by Sauzet as well as his will to continue this work, while remaining faithful to the founding values of the project.
Aurélien Vernant, Director of Architecture at Collection, then clarified the meaning of the rapprochement between the two agencies, based on a common aspiration: to enhance, transmit, and preserve the exceptional corpus of houses signed Maurice Sauzet, from Occitania to the Alpes-Maritimes, passing through the Var.
The evening was an opportunity for guests to visit a part of the house of Maurice Sauzet : the chance to experience the quality of the principles and spaces implemented by the father of natural architecture.

Maurice Sauzet, creator of natural architecture
A pioneer, theorist and prolific architect, Maurice Sauzet has developed an architectural design that places nature, movement and sensory experience at the heart of the project, drawing on Japanese constructive and spatial philosophy. Whether it is a rehabilitation or a new construction, each project builds on the existing, built or natural. For those who perceive the habitat as a true way of “being in the world”, each atmosphere is based on a search for well-being and serenity.
