This exhibition will showcase photographs taken by Manuel Bougot in Chandigarh, highlighting this major Corbusian architectural work in the history of modern architecture.

The project for the new city of Chandigarh, built between 1950 and 1965 by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, oscillates between social utopia and aesthetic ideal. For this project, Le Corbusier organized the city around the four functions he held dear: housing, work, recreation, and transportation. To facilitate mobility, he categorized the traffic routes based on their speed, added bicycle paths, and designed the city’s sectors as autonomous spaces where all shops are accessible within a 10-minute walk.

Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret’s groundbreaking work made Chandigarh a symbol of modernization and democratization in India after its independence in 1947.
