Description

A contemporary villa by Rudy Ricciotti

Located in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, this exceptional villa, designed by Rudy Ricciotti, is a renovation project of a former country house. The property boasts spectacular panoramic views of the Palais des Papes, set within a landscaped park planted with remarkable Mediterranean species.

The villa offers approximately 600 m² of living space, spread over three levels and extended by a 2,557 m² wooded park.

The ground floor features a vast living area of nearly 200 m², including a living room, dining room, and an open, Boffi-designed fitted kitchen. The entire space opens widely onto the exterior, terraces, and a 30-meter-long swimming pool.

This floor also includes a first master suite with an office and shower room.

The bastide houses a second 85 m² master suite with a double dressing room, bathroom, shower, and private gym.

The garden level includes three additional suites, each with a closet and shower room, one of which also has a dressing room.

Furthermore, this level features an office, a large laundry room, a wine cellar, and an independent apartment with a living room, bedroom, kitchen, and shower room.

The property also includes a double garage, outdoor parking for four cars, and two garden sheds.

Outside, the swimming pool, various terraces, the landscaped park organized in terraces, and the pergola create a scene where architecture and landscape intertwine in a constant quest for harmony.

The property is located on the residential heights of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, in a calm and preserved environment. It offers quick access to the historic center of Avignon, the TGV train station (less than 10 minutes by car), and the main highways.

Villeneuve-lès-Avignon also benefits from a varied natural panorama, between the Alpilles and Camargue Regional Natural Parks and the Mediterranean coast, just an hour’s drive away.

Minimalist lines in Provence

The architectural language of the house is representative of Rudy Ricciotti’s work, with material as the starting point of the project. The architect proposes a contemporary extension based on an older structure, reinterpreted through a radical and minimalist approach.

Characterized by dense, mineral black concrete, this architecture exudes a monolithic power, tempered by the play of light, the presence of water, and the use of French walnut in the bedrooms. This wood brings an organic touch to the ensemble, in a quest for synthesis and balance of materials.

The architect composes the façades through precise work on the landscape. Large glass doors disappear, extending the spaces outward and orienting the views toward Avignon, the Palais des Papes, and the Alpilles Massif.

The spatial sequences are contrasted: vast, open volumes for the reception areas, a more enveloping atmosphere in the night spaces, and circulations designed through plays of light and shadow shape the interior of the villa. Finally, the place reveals itself progressively : discreet from the street, the amplitude of the volumes and the generosity of the views are unveiled once the threshold is crossed.

Rudy Ricciotti

Born in Algeria in 1952, Rudy Ricciotti is one of the major figures of contemporary French architecture. Both an architect and engineer, he earned a double degree from the Geneva School of Engineering in 1975 before graduating from the Marseille School of Architecture in 1980.

Since then, his practice has been based on an experimental approach to material and structure. His work is often associated with the use of concrete, whose qualities he explores through radical and contextual projects.
Winner of the Grand Prix National d’Architecture in 2006 and the Gold Medal of the Academy of Architecture, Ricciotti is the author of many landmark projects in France and abroad. These include the MUCEM in Marseille (2013), the Department of Islamic Arts at the Louvre Museum, designed with Mario Bellini (2012), the Jean Cocteau Museum in Menton (2011), the Rivesaltes Camp Memorial (2015), and more recently 19M, Chanel’s Manufacture of Artistic Trades in Paris (2021). Internationally, he designed the Nikolaisaal Philharmonie in Potsdam (2000) and the Peace Footbridge in Seoul (2002).

His agency designs a variety of programs – museums, cultural facilities, infrastructure, housing, villas, and furniture – demonstrating a cross-disciplinary practice of architecture. In parallel, Rudy Ricciotti has published numerous essays and pamphlets, including Insoumission, published by Albin Michel in 2025.
