Description
An architect-designed home with a garden in the Montparnasse district.
In a charming private lane, this architect-designed house with clean lines, built by Breton architect Loïk Corre in 2000, serves as a contemporary haven opposite a historic building where Giacometti, Marcel Duchamp, and photographer Robert Capa once lived.
It spans a surface area of 358 m² (total area: 472 m²) across six levels, complemented by a 47 m² garden in an exceptionally quiet environment.
The house opens on the garden level with an entrance hall leading to a living room featuring double-height ceilings, bathed in light from large industrial-style glass panels overlooking the south-facing garden.
On the first floor, there is a mezzanine lounge, a bedroom with a walk-in closet, and a bathroom with separate WC. This space overlooks the living room and also benefits from the light streaming through the large windows.
The second floor comprises two bedrooms, a shower room, and a separate WC.
Between the second and third floors, a large 43 m² south-facing terrace unfolds.
The third level houses a bedroom opening onto two distinct terraces, a shower room, and a separate WC. This floor also leads to a mezzanine.
The equipped kitchen, located on the first basement level, is centered around a concrete island. This spacious area is lit by a lightwell and a glass ceiling that opens onto the living room above. A WC, a pantry, and additional rooms complete this level.
The second basement features a wine cellar and other large spaces that can be converted into a gym or home theater. This level also includes a laundry room and a boiler room.
In a peaceful setting, this house enjoys a prime location in the Montparnasse district, just steps from the shops on Rue Daguerre. It is conveniently served by the Gaîté (line 13), Raspail (lines 4 and 6), and Denfert-Rochereau (RER B, lines 4 and 6) metro stations.
Modernist Inspirations in Montparnasse
This design incorporates numerous references to 20th-century architecture. It combines the comfort of contemporary design with the elegance of its modernist inspiration, evident in the treatment of volumes and structures as well as the expansive windows reminiscent of the artist studios typical of the neighborhood.
Inside the house, the open-plan layout creates a sense of spaciousness, enhanced by the double-height ceilings and large windows. These windows flood the interiors with natural light and create a seamless connection between the interior and exterior. The elevated terraces offer views of the garden and the surrounding urban landscape, nestled in greenery.
This home fits harmoniously into the Parisian landscape of Montparnasse, drawing on local architectural references as tributes to the area’s iconic buildings.
