Description
A loft with a gallery near Parc Longchamp
EXCLUSIVE – Completely renovated by the Atelier XY architectural practice, this loft in a former shop is an ideal pied-à-terre in one of Marseille’s most sought-after areas, close to gardens, cultural venues and art galleries.
It opens with a remote-controlled iron curtain and offers 60 m² of living space (49 m² LC).
Its rectangular floor plan has been split into two parts. An independent concrete unit houses the private area, comprising a bedroom with dressing room and a spacious shower room. The whole unit is separated from the day area by a set of sliding polycarbonate partitions that let in light while preserving privacy.
The rest of the space is given over to the lounge area, the ‘gallery at home’, which extends into a kitchen opening onto a bright, calm patio where the vegetation cascades down the whitewashed walls in a Mediterranean style. A lean-to houses a laundry room and guest toilet.
The loft is located in the first arrondissement of Marseille, right next to the Musée des Beaux-Arts, the Natural History Museum and Parc Longchamp.
A “gallery at home”
The space was completely restructured by the architectural firm Atelier XY, which succeeded in creating an art gallery naturally integrated into the living space. The current owner, a specialist in emerging French, Belgian, Swiss and American art, has been able to host various exhibitions and installations by contemporary artists such as Eva Barto, Gianni Motti and Apolonia Sokol.
The architects used raw materials such as light grey spatulated waxed concrete on the floor and wrought iron for the door and window frames. The white walls, with integrated indirect lighting and deep red accents, and the blond wood tones in the kitchen create a resolutely contemporary ambience.
