Description
A bright loft in the former Manufacture des Œillets
Located in a converted factory listed as a supplementary historic monument, this double-height apartment spans a total area of 195 m².
The ground floor, with minimal partitioning, offers a living space of over 120 m² bathed in natural light thanks to a full-height glass roof. The entrance opens onto this vast area, which includes the living room, dining room, and a fully equipped open kitchen.
This level also features a space that can be used as a library or TV lounge, a pantry, a laundry room, and a separate toilet.
A spiral staircase leads to the mezzanine, which houses the sleeping areas. This includes two bedrooms, two terrazzo shower rooms, an office easily convertible into a child’s bedroom, and a toilet. The master bedroom and office benefit from indirect lighting, diffused by the spacious living area on the ground floor.
Located on the outskirts of Paris, the Manufacture des Œillets is just minutes away from the Mairie d’Ivry metro station (Line 7) and the RER C. The neighborhood offers all amenities and is also close to green spaces such as Parc des Cormailles.
The Manufacture des Œillets : an industrial heritage repurposed
Housed in the former Manufacture des Œillets, this loft is part of an industrial complex founded in 1836 in Paris and relocated to Ivry-sur-Seine in 1894, when the main hall was built. In 1913, under the impetus of the American firm United Shoe Machinery Company, a new glass and metal building was designed by engineer Paul Sée, inspired by the company’s mother factory in the United States. With a functionalist approach, the building was designed to enhance production efficiency: metal structures, natural lighting, and airy volumes to provide workers with light, ventilation, and comfort.
Since the end of industrial activity in the late 1980s, the Manufacture has been repurposed for various uses: art center, graphic arts and architecture school, theater, warehouses, and housing. The residential units fully benefit from the original building’s architectural qualities and vocabulary: generous ceiling heights, open spaces, abundant light from the glass facades, and exposed brick, glass, and metal beams. This rehabilitation reveals adaptable structures and a building of strong character.
The Manufacture has been partially listed as a historic monument since 1996.
