RESEDA architecture prize, the first sustainable development prize for architecture students

By 16 March 2023June 12th, 2023No Comments

Presented on January 31 by the Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul Malak, this new prize is intended to honor the most eco-responsible graduation projects proposed by students from the 20 national schools of architecture.

Sustainable development at the heart of the RESEDA prize

With the ecological transition calling for a renewal of architectural and urban planning practices, the new RESEDA awards will recognize 1 project per national school of architecture, i.e. 20 end-of-study projects judged to be the most innovative. Designed to reward the excellence of students’ work, the RESEDA awards will also support young graduates in their professional integration projects.

The name RESEDA evokes the name of a flowering, sustainable plant that is a refuge for bees, and whose green color is frequently used in architecture (dome of the Grand Palais), but also stands for Résidence Étudiante pour la Durabilité en Architecture. To take part, candidates will have to relate their research to current ecological issues and promote sustainability: sustainable new construction or intervention on existing buildings, urban requalification, revitalization of rural areas, conceptual and innovative architecture…

The 20 projects selected will embody architecture’s ability to transform the world.

A jury of specialists and a residency at Villa Médicis to mark the first edition

The winners will be announced at the Journées Nationales de l’Architecture from October 13 to 15, 2023, by a 9-member jury from the architectural and cultural worlds: Christine Leconte, President of the Conseil national de l’Ordre des architectes, Pablo Katz, President of the Académie d’Architecture, Alicia Orsini, winner of the Albums des jeunes architectes et paysagistes 2018 competition and the Prix du Public Archinovo 2022, and Sam Stourdze, Director of the Villa Médicis and the Académie de France in Rome.

The 20 students selected will benefit from a residency at the Villa Medici in Rome in April 2024. The residency will take place during Villa Medici’s annual “Festival des Cabanes”, which invites promising young architects to work together on sustainable and modular construction issues.
