Description

A mid-century haven of peace on the shores of Lake Geneva

In the heart of an unspoilt setting, this refined villa with its modernist lines was designed by a Swiss architect for his family.

Set in landscaped grounds of more than 2,000 m² facing south-west, the property comprises a main villa with 388 m² of living space, including an independent flat of approx. 100 m² on the garden level.

The ground floor comprises an entrance hall with cloakroom leading to the living areas, including a cosy lounge with double-height ceilings and monumental indoor and outdoor fireplaces, which opens onto the garden through its bay windows, a dining room with terrace and a fully-equipped kitchen. An independent suite with bedroom and bathroom and a study complete this level.

Served by a staircase with wide, rounded wooden banisters, the first floor houses the sleeping quarters, comprising a master suite with bedroom, bathroom and balcony, two large bedrooms (which could easily be divided into a total of four bedrooms), a bathroom, a gallery with study and a conservatory in the roof.

The garden level comprises a self-contained flat with lounge and conservatory opening onto a terrace and the garden, a kitchen with dining area, a bedroom and a bathroom. The basement includes a cellar, laundry room, boiler room, utility room and workshop.

The property also features a double garage, three outdoor parking spaces and a garden shed.

The villa has undergone a number of modifications designed to optimise its living space and comfort. The upper terrace, built into the roof, has been extended to include a veranda, so you can enjoy this open space all year round. A winter garden has been added to the lower flat, to bring more natural light into these spaces.

The villa enjoys an exceptional, peaceful setting on the shores of Lake Geneva, just 20 minutes from Geneva.

Modernity and Synthesis of the arts

The architecture of the villa is reminiscent of the mid-century style that was particularly popular in the 1970s. Its silhouette is marked by the graphic juxtaposition of its volumes and the oblique slope of its roof, which follows the slope of the land. On the garden side, the wide roof overhangs protect the outside terraces and bay windows from the high summer sun, while letting in the low winter rays.

Designed with the comfort of its occupants in mind, the villa boasts generous, light-filled rooms that face onto the garden. Its living spaces feature a palette of noble materials, such as travertine on the floor, mahogany for all the woodwork and roughcast covering the walls, laid by hand by a mason.

The architect approached invited Geneva artist Jean Baier to create the spectacular geometric copper mantelpiece for the fireplace, as well as the sculptures at the entrance to the villa. Baier’s work, which is close to neoplasticism, blends perfectly with the overall aesthetic of the house.
