Bom Sucesso, a design resort unique in Europe
Built on the site of a former eucalyptus monoculture, the Bom Sucesso project deconstructs the model of the standardised, regionalist holiday village, by involving 23 nationally and internationally renowned architects in its design. Pritzker Prize winners Alvaro Siza Vieira and Edouardo Souto Moura, representatives of the Portuguese architectural avant-garde such as Manuel Aires Mateus, and prestigious international names such as David Chipperfield and Hans Kollhoff were invited to design the resort’s villas, hotels and facilities.
The architects have adhered to a set of rules to ensure the architectural harmony of the development, such as the use of traditional façade materials and green roofs, and the design of single-storey volumes. The site has a low building density, to ensure the privacy and tranquillity of the residents, with plenty of green space and numerous vantage points overlooking the magnificent panorama of the Côte d’Argent.
