Description
Mid-century Minimalism in Marnes-la-Coquette
Nestled in the heart of a private and peaceful estate in Marnes-la-Coquette, this modernist house was built in 1962 by Pierre Depreux, son and student of the modern architect Joseph Depreux.
Set on a wooded plot of about 500 m², the house offers a living area of 150 m² spread over two levels, complemented by a large basement.
On the ground floor, the entrance, marked by a wooden screen, leads to a living area, a dining room, and a semi-open kitchen. The living room, over 40 m², unfolds around a geometric fireplace with an angled metal mantel. It benefits from a dual exposure thanks to its large bay windows that open widely onto the greenery and a pleasant south-facing terrace. The kitchen, made of wood and white melamine with a modernist design, is connected to the dining room through an opening above the countertop, which serves as a bar or pass-through.
The solid wood staircase leads to the upper floor, dedicated to the sleeping area. A central landing serves a master bedroom of 25 m² with built-in fittings, two other bedrooms of 15 and 11 m² with storage, as well as a bathroom with shower and bathtub. It is possible to create a fourth bedroom.
An 85 m² basement with cellars, boiler room, laundry room, and garage completes the property.
The house is located within the private estate of La Marche, opposite the Marie-Antoinette Park. It benefits from an ideal environment, close to the train station, shops, and the market square of Vaucresson.
The Vaucresson station connects to Paris in 30 minutes (Line L, towards Saint-Lazare).
Warm and Functional Aesthetic
The house combines a modernist aesthetic with traditional construction elements. Its rectangular structure is topped by an impressive double-pitched slate roof, adorned with two large dormer windows. The overall design, simple and elegant, plays with the geometry of the openings and the simplicity of the lines. The façades alternate between white flat surfaces, large glazed areas, brick, and dark wood panels. Inside, raw materials such as natural brick and solid wood contrast with the white walls and framed views of vegetation through the various openings.
The warm atmosphere of the whole, typical of the Mid-century style and projects from the 1960s, also evokes a Japanese-inspired influence, recurrent in modernist architecture and design. The work on circulation and the multiplication of framed views, the use of architectural elements that reveal or suggest a space or function, as well as the simplicity of spatial design, seem to draw from the Japanese construction tradition.
