Description

A Poetic Rehabilitation in Marly-le-Roi

This house, built in the 1970s, was completely redesigned in 1993 by architect Eric Maria, a former collaborator of Jean Nouvel.

It has been carefully renovated by the current owners and offers warm spaces with an exceptional unobstructed view of Paris, the Eiffel Tower, and the towers of La Défense.

On a plot of 1,641 m², the house offers a living area of 357 m² (468 m² of floor area) over two levels.

From the entrance, lit by a light well, a walkway leads to the bright living space, south-east facing, consisting of a living room with a fireplace and a dining room opening onto a sunny 39 m² terrace made of ipé wood with a built-in barbecue and a fully equipped high-end kitchen with a central island. A corridor with curved walls leads to the night area, which includes a bedroom with a dressing room and shower room, two other bedrooms, and a bathroom with original blue ceramics.

On the garden level, a living room – library – office opens onto a 35 m² ipé terrace and the garden. This level also includes a bedroom with a dressing room and bathroom, an office (these spaces can be separated into an independent apartment), a shower room, a wellness area with a jacuzzi, sauna, and gym, a wine cellar, a cellar, a laundry room, and a garage.

The house also benefits from a garden shed and outdoor parking spaces. The land is suitable for a swimming pool.

The house is located in a very quiet residential area of Marly-Le-Roi, with no opposite neighbors, close to Port-Marly and the Seine. The international high schools of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and La Celle-Saint-Cloud are easily accessible, and Paris via the Porte d’Auteuil is only 20 minutes away.

Nautical Spirit

Architect Eric Maria takes advantage of the graphic qualities of the original 1970s building and designs a bright and warm habitat, drawing inspiration from the imagery of navigation. The interior walkway, bordered by a minimalist metal railing and topped by a zenithal skylight, recalls the gangway of a boat. The exotic wood terraces are designed as decks, portholes pierced in the living room floor allow a glimpse of the garden level living room while letting in light, and the undulations of the corridor leading to the bedrooms poetically evoke waves.

Eric Maria

A graduate architect DPLG from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Eric Maria is also a member of the committee of the Société Suisse des Ingénieurs et Architectes de Genève.

After collaborating on the development of the first French Zénith halls, he joined the Ateliers Jean Nouvel as an assistant architect for the Institut du Monde Arabe project. He notably developed Jean Nouvel’s design line and the project for the Opéra National de Lyon. In 1994, he became a partner of the Ateliers Jean Nouvel and took over the general management of the agency’s projects.

Eric Maria established himself in Switzerland in 1999 and opened his agency in 2001. He continued his collaboration with the Ateliers Jean Nouvel on major projects, such as the Morat arteplage or the Swiss headquarters of Richemont. He also developed his design line in collaboration with Saporiti Italia and delivered international cultural equipment projects (museum in Doha, art galleries), high-end villas, urban planning projects in Switzerland, train stations, and residential buildings in France.
