From 24th May to 1st October 2023, the second Festival des Cabanes will be held at Villa Medici in Rome.
Located in the centre of Rome overlooking the Piazza del Popolo, the Villa Medici has been home to the Académie de France in Rome since 1803. This 16th-century villa and its seven-hectare park now serve as an artists’ residence attached to the Ministry of Culture. It welcomes creative artists and art historians for stays of varying lengths, offering them an environment in which to develop their projects.

For the second year running, the Villa Medicis is hosting the Festival des Cabanes in its majestic gardens, designed by Ferdinand de Medicis in the 16th century. This event brings together a series of unique creations – ephemeral installations, micro-architectures and pavilions – that respect the environment. Dedicated to research and experimentation, the site brings together gardeners, architects, artists and thinkers.
A testament to creativity and innovation, these unique huts highlight the importance of sustainability and the environment in architectural design. Participants are encouraged to use recycled materials, sustainable construction techniques and renewable energy. Each of the huts exhibited, combining concepts of form, space, materials and light, blend harmoniously into the gardens of Villa Medici and create a subtle dialogue between historic architecture and contemporary creations.

While the first edition of the Festival des Cabanes featured only four projects – including the ProtoCAMPO designed by the WALD architectural practice and now on sale in our office – the second presents seven creations by ArchiSculpteurs, Atelier CRAFT, Atelier Poem, Aurel Design Urbain and Nelson Wilmotte Architectes.

Le Festival des Cabanes is a major event in the field of sustainable contemporary architecture.
