Exhibition and Publication

The international exhibition Superstudio Migrazioni, held at CIVA (Brussels) from January 15 to May 16, 2021, is a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the adventure of the Superstudio group.

Superstudio, Misura series, 1969-1972, Spring visit to the showroom (with Angiolino and Gino Lepri), 1970. Photography Cristiano Toraldo di Francia. Toraldo di Francia Archives, Filottrano

Architecture? Design ? Art ? Anthropology? From 1966, and for more than a decade, this group of architects developed an experimental project practice at the crossroads of disciplines and paths. The result was one of the richest and most significant bodies of work of the Italian radical scene of the 1960s-1970s. The famous urban visions (of the Monument Continu or of the Fundamental Acts) such as furniture object series (range Misura) developed by the collective have become icons of Pop Year production, and more generally of XXe century.

The works and creations presented at the CIVA, in partnership with the Centre Pompidou (which is showcasing its exceptional archive), synthesize the richness of this contribution through numerous photocollages, drawings, installations, models, films, objects and furnishings.

The exhibition Superstudio Migrazioni is accompanied by a boxed set of three publications (as well as podcast programming). The first brings together critical essays and three interviews with Hiromi Fujii, Rem Koolhaas and Bernard Tschumi – architects who have had dealings with Superstudio. The second offers a visual immersion in Superstudio’s work, with an inventory of production illustrated by exceptional iconography. The final opus unveils, for the first time, the correspondence of Adolfo Natalini, presenting a substantial selection of letters from the architect, founder of the group and player in international theoretical debate until his death in 2020.

Alongside the group’s work, the exhibition presents the work of 9999, Archizoom, Hiromi Fujii, Hans Hollein, Arata Isozaki, Rem Koolhaas, Ugo La Pietra, Leonardo Ricci, Aldo Rossi, Leonardo Savioli, Ettore Sottsass Jr. and Bernard Tschumi.
