Description

The “Bramefaon Villas”, a project to restore a historic architecture in Barbizon

Set in the clearing of a forest park, this 1920s villa enjoys an exceptional setting on the edge of the forest of Fontainebleau in the village of Barbizon. It is the subject of a contemporary renovation and refurbishment project to create 4 independent apartments, designed by the Ciguë agency and the developer Ma.

Nestled in a lush, unspoilt natural setting, this villa, with its eclectic style typical of the large holiday homes of the early 20th century, offers a living space immersed in nature. Set in a 2.5 hectare forest estate, it spans 550 m² over three levels, with a further 150 m² of basement space, and benefits from 5,600 m² of private gardens.

The contemporary refurbishment project comprises four sun-drenched apartments with private terraces and direct views of the forest: two garden-floor flats of 128 and 116 m², each with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and two living areas with fireplace; and two duplex apartments of 118 and 127 m² on the 1st and 2nd floors, each with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large terrace.

Each home boasts a luxurious finish: quartz concrete, terrazzo or parquet flooring, mineral or wooden terraces, wooden exterior joinery.

Flat dwellers will benefit from the exceptional facilities at La Lisière, including an ecological swimming pool and shared vegetable gardens, as well as free, direct access to the Fontainebleau forest.

The property enjoys unspoilt natural surroundings and an exceptional location on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest, in the village of Barbizon, a major centre of French artistic history…

The park and the villa, accessible via a large driveway lined with plane trees, are close to all the amenities of the village: shops, school, chemist, doctor, post office, leisure facilities, etc. 15 minutes on foot, 5 minutes by bike or 4 minutes by car. Paris is less than 50 minutes away by car or train.

A contemporary transformation project

In 2022, the developer MA embarked on an innovative programme involving the conversion of the “La Lisière” estate into 7 contemporary ecological homes, and the renovation of the estate’s historic villa. The architectural firm Ciguë was commissioned to carry out these two large-scale projects, in order to ensure the homogeneity of the site and the coherence of the programme.

For the renovation of the villa, Ciguë is proposing a minimalist approach aimed at sublimating the architectural and landscape qualities of the site, in keeping with its history and contemporary lifestyles.

“La Lisière” : an innovative ecological housing project

The villa is part of a forest estate that in 2024 will be home to the “La Lisière” project, an eco-responsible housing estate comprising 7 bioclimatic wooden villas scattered across the site. Developed by the developer Ma and designed by the firm ciguë, this innovative project will open up the villa to the forest and provide its residents with a high-quality living environment and community facilities.

1 house is still available out of the 7 presented for sale.

Ciguë, an internationally recognised architecture studio

Since it was founded in 2003, ciguë has sought to produce architecture at the crossroads of space, design and installation. The desire to reconnect architecture with the act of making has continued to evolve over the nearly 20 years of its existence, in response to encounters, projects and contexts. Today, this culture of thinking and doing finds its balance between diversified architectural production, daily manipulation of materials, and research projects carried out in the studio, particularly on the question of virtuous materials and, more broadly, energy savings.

Based in Montreuil in a place that is both an agency and a research workshop, the team, which now numbers around twenty people, develops a wide range of projects, from public buildings to bespoke objects, including the renovation of heritage sites and the creation of living spaces and production and sales outlets around the world. The current partners are Camille Bénard, Julien Franc Wahlgreen, Guillem Renard and Alphonse Sarthout.

The agency has recently completed the three storeys of the Samaritaine in the Sanaa building on rue de Rivoli, a bioclimatic wooden house in Haute Vienne, a coffee shop for the Japanese brand %Arabica in New York and research into plaster concrete, exhibited and published by the Pavillon de l’Arsenal.

At present, ciguë is working on around twenty projects, including the Cergy Art School in collaboration with the Nantes-based agency Raum, a building in Jakarta to house an Arabica boutique, the renovation of a 120-room hotel in Athens, a restaurant in a greenhouse in Egypt on the shores of the Red Sea and its future studio/living space in Montreuil.
