Description
An Apartment with Garden in a Historic Villa in Barbizon
This apartment is part of the contemporary rehabilitation project of a historic 1920s villa by the architectural firm Ciguë. The project involves dividing the building into four exceptional properties, set within an outstanding location at the edge of the Fontainebleau forest, in the village of Barbizon.
On the garden level, this apartment spans 128 m² and enjoys 46 m² of terraces extending toward the forest.
It features a large living space with a lounge, a separate kitchen, and a dining room, all bathed in light thanks to large bay windows. Both the dining room and the living room open onto a spacious terrace with direct access to the garden and the forest.
The sleeping area consists of two suites, each with its own bathroom. One of the suites has direct access to the garden.
In the basement, residents will have access to cellars and private storage spaces.
They will also benefit from the exceptional amenities of the neighboring “La Lisière” project, including the ecological pool, shared vegetable gardens, and direct access to the Fontainebleau forest.
The property benefits from a preserved natural environment and an exceptional location at the edge of the Fontainebleau Forest, in the village of Barbizon, a renowned place in French artistic history.
Accessible via a grand avenue lined with plane trees, the villa enjoys all the local amenities of the village: shops, schools, pharmacy, doctor, post office, and recreational facilities are within 15 minutes on foot, 5 minutes by bike, or 4 minutes by car. Paris is accessible in under 50 minutes by car or train.
The “Villas Bramefaon” is a rehabilitation project of a historic architecture in Barbizon
In the clearing of a forest park, this apartment, designed within a villa built in the 1920s, enjoys an exceptional setting on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest, in the village of Barbizon. It is part of a renovation and contemporary rehabilitation project, with three other apartments, designed as independent homes by the Ciguë agency and the developer Ma.
Nestled in a lush, preserved natural environment, this villa, with its eclectic style typical of grand resort residences from the early 20th century, offers a living space immersed in nature. Set within a forest domain, it spans 550 m² across three levels, complemented by 150 m² of basement space, and benefits from a private garden of 5,600 m².
The planned contemporary rehabilitation project consists of four sunlit apartments, each with private terraces and direct views of the forest. Each apartment boasts luxurious finishes, including quartz concrete, terrazzo, or parquet floors, mineral or wood terraces, and wooden exterior joinery.

Ciguë: An internationally recognized architecture studio
Since its founding in 2003, Ciguë has focused on producing architecture at the intersection of space, design, and installation. The desire to reconnect architecture with the act of making has evolved throughout its nearly 20 years of existence, shaped by encounters, projects, and contexts. Today, this culture of thinking and making finds its balance between a diverse architectural output, daily manipulation of materials, and research projects conducted within its studio, particularly focusing on virtuous materials and energy efficiency.
Based in Montreuil in a space that serves as both an agency and a research workshop, the team, which currently includes around twenty people, develops a wide range of projects, from public buildings to custom-made objects, as well as the rehabilitation of heritage sites, creation of living spaces, and places for production and retail around the world. The current partners are Camille Bénard, Julien Franc Wahlgreen, Guillem Renard, and Alphonse Sarthout.
The agency has recently completed the three floors of the Samaritaine building by Sanaa on Rue de Rivoli, a bioclimatic wooden house in Haute Vienne, a café shop for the Japanese brand %Arabica in New York, and a research project on plaster concrete, exhibited and published by the Pavillon de l’Arsenal.
Currently, Ciguë is working on around twenty projects, including the Art School in Cergy in collaboration with the Nantes-based agency Raum, a building in Jakarta to house an Arabica shop, the renovation of a 120-room hotel in Athens, a restaurant in a greenhouse in Egypt on the shores of the Red Sea, and its future workshop/living base in Montreuil.
