Description

An apartment with a garden in a historic villa in Barbizon

This apartment is part of the contemporary rehabilitation project of a historic villa from the 1920s by the architectural firm Ciguë, which plans to divide the building into four exceptional properties within an extraordinary setting on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest, in the village of Barbizon.

On the garden level, this apartment offers an area of 116 m² and features a 32 m² terrace extending towards the forest, along with direct access to the garden.

It includes a large living area with a lounge, open kitchen, and dining room, all bathed in light thanks to large windows overlooking the surrounding forest. Adjacent to this living space, a study, easily adaptable into a bedroom or sitting room, opens onto the large terrace facing the garden and the forest.

The night area, comprising two bedrooms with a shower room and a bathroom, also opens onto the greenery.

In the basement, cellars and private storage spaces are available for the residents.

They will also benefit from the exceptional amenities of the neighboring “La Lisière” project, including an ecological swimming pool and shared vegetable gardens.

The property enjoys a preserved natural environment and an exceptional location on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest, in the village of Barbizon, a historic landmark in French artistic heritage.

Accessible via a grand driveway lined with plane trees, the villa benefits from all the local amenities the village has to offer: shops, a school, a pharmacy, a doctor, a post office, and recreational activities are within a 15-minute walk, a 5-minute bike ride, or a 4-minute drive. Paris is reachable in less than 50 minutes by car or train.

The “Villas Bramefaon,” a rehabilitation project of historic architecture in Barbizon.

In a clearing within a forest park, this apartment, designed within a villa built in the 1920s, enjoys an exceptional setting on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest, in the village of Barbizon. It is part of a contemporary renovation and rehabilitation project, converting the villa into four independent apartments designed as houses, a project led by the Ciguë architectural firm and the developer Ma.

Nestled in a lush and preserved natural environment, this villa, with its eclectic style typical of grand vacation residences from the early 20th century, offers a living space deeply connected to nature. Set within a forest estate, it spans 550 m² across three levels, complemented by 150 m² of basement space, and features a private garden of 5,600 m².

The envisioned contemporary rehabilitation project comprises four sunlit apartments with private terraces and direct views of the forest. Each residence boasts luxurious finishes, including quartz concrete, terrazzo, or parquet flooring, mineral or wooden terraces, and wooden exterior joinery.

Ciguë, an internationally renowned architecture studio

Since its founding in 2003, Ciguë has been dedicated to creating architecture at the intersection of space, design, and installation. Over nearly 20 years, the studio’s desire to reconnect architecture with the act of making has continually evolved through encounters, projects, and diverse contexts. This culture of thinking and doing finds its balance today between a varied architectural production, daily engagement with materials, and research projects within its workshop, particularly focusing on sustainable materials and energy efficiency.

Based in Montreuil, in a space that serves both as an office and a research studio, the team—now comprising around twenty members—develops an extensive range of projects. These include public buildings, custom-designed objects, the rehabilitation of historic sites, the creation of living spaces, and production and retail venues worldwide. The current partners are Camille Bénard, Julien Franc Wahlgreen, Guillem Renard, and Alphonse Sarthout.

Recently, the studio completed projects such as the three floors of the Samaritaine building by Sanaa on Rue de Rivoli, a bioclimatic wooden house in Haute-Vienne, a coffee shop for the Japanese brand %Arabica in New York, and a research project on plaster concrete, exhibited and published by the Pavillon de l’Arsenal.

Ciguë is currently working on about twenty projects, including the Cergy Art School in collaboration with the Nantes-based Raum agency, a building in Jakarta for an Arabica coffee shop, the renovation of a 120-room hotel in Athens, a restaurant in a greenhouse on the shores of the Red Sea in Egypt, and their future workshop/living base in Montreuil.
