Description
Modernist inspiration in Garches
Built by a disciple of Robert Mallet-Stevens at the heart of a landscaped park, this house embodies the modernist features of grand residences. Expanded in 1974, it retains its original envelope, and its modernist elements have been enhanced through renovation.
Set within a 2 300 m² landscaped garden, this 700 m² home spans four levels.
The ground floor opens onto a 30 m² double-height entrance hall and includes a double living room with a fireplace, a 90 m² dining area leading to an office, a fitted kitchen, and another dining space. This level opens onto a large terrace.
A sculptural staircase serves the upper floors. The first floor features a spacious 60 m² master suite with a dressing room and bathroom opening onto a balcony, as well as another large 30 m² bedroom with a shower room. The sleeping area continues on the second floor with a 26 m² bedroom opening onto a balcony, two additional large bedrooms, and a bathroom.
Adjacent to the house, a 50 m² independent apartment enjoys unobstructed views of the garden.
On the same level, a fitness room with a sauna opens onto a heated outdoor pool.
Two garages and cellars complete this property.
Located in a residential neighborhood, this house benefits from absolute tranquility, nestled in a forested environment near the Forêt Domaniale de la Malmaison and the golf courses of Saint-Cloud and Vaucresson.
Shops and schools are easily accessible, and Paris is just 20 minutes away by public transport via bus and the L line.
Classical heritage and modernist innovations
Built in the late 1940s by a disciple of Mallet-Stevens, this house incorporates innovative principles characteristic of the period. The architect designed a simple, elegant structure, drawing on the codes of early 20th-century manor houses: a double-pitched roof, large reception spaces that can be fully opened, and an office adjacent to the living areas, unlike the private apartments and bedrooms developed on the upper floors.
However, certain elements borrow from the language of modernity. The use of glass blocks echoes those employed by Pierre Chareau in his famous Maison de Verre (1928), while the curved staircase with clean lines and the granito flooring place the interior of the house within an Art Deco reference framework.
