Description
A green haven on the outskirts of Geneva
Located just 8 km from Geneva and set on a 3,000 m² wooded plot, this 1960s architect-designed house spans 366 m².
From the entrance, the eye is drawn to the patio, a recessed open space in the façade, that invites the outdoors inside.
This spacious entrance defines the L-shaped layout of the house, which offers a vast, light-filled living area. This includes a 68 m² open-plan living room, a fully equipped kitchen, and a dining area, all opening generously onto the garden to create a seamless connection between intimacy and nature. These living spaces are complemented by an independent lounge.
The entrance also leads to the sleeping area, where the main master suite is located. It features a spacious bathroom with a bathtub, double sinks, and a toilet, as well as a study area. The second bedroom, also a master suite, has its own shower room with a toilet. Both bedrooms and the shared landing are equipped with large closets.
An additional independent toilet completes this floor.
A staircase descends to the lower level, where a corridor provides access to several functional spaces: a boiler room, a cellar, an office, a wine cellar, and a large walk-in closet. This floor also houses two additional bedrooms, each with its own shower room and toilet, as well as a large cinema room.
Located on the Franco-Swiss border, near the city center of Geneva, Saint-Julien-en-Genevois combines urban dynamism with a pleasant living environment.
Just a 5-minute walk from the town center, the house enjoys both the tranquility of its residential neighborhood and easy access to all amenities, including Geneva Airport, local shops, schools, public transportation, and major road networks.
Modernism and Bauhaus inspiration
Built in 1965 by architect Paul Sautier, this modernist house integrates Bauhaus influences while engaging with its surroundings.
Its architecture is distinguished by clean lines, smooth façades, and generous glass openings. It prioritizes functionality and combines materials such as concrete, steel, and stone. The perforated roof elements, reinterpreted as sun breakers, animate the façade and terrace with plays of light and shadow.
The interior reflects the spirit of the open floor plan, with a spacious, undivided main room and fluid circulation between indoor and outdoor spaces. Quartzite, used for the flooring in both the living area and outdoors, ensures visual and material continuity, reinforcing the unity of the house with its environment. This harmony extends to the 3,000 m² landscaped garden, designed as a natural extension of the living spaces.
Paul Sautier
Paul Sautier, a French architect active in Haute-Savoie during the 1950s and 1960s, left his mark on the Annemasse region with designs that blend clean lines and functionality inspired by Bauhaus and post-war modernism.
His work includes a variety of projects, from collective housing to public facilities such as the Annemasse Theater and the Lucinges School. His constructive approach, rooted in the spirit and needs of post-war reconstruction, has left a lasting imprint on the local architectural landscape.
