The Pope of modern architecture
Arguably the most famous architect of the 20th century, Charles-Edouard Jeanneret-Gris (1887-1965), also known as Le Corbusier, was a supporter of a radical break with historical forms. Le Corbusier’s houses are “machines for living”, founding a “modernist” imagination and aesthetic: industrialisation, a free plan, banded windows and terraced roofs. His works have stood the test of time as timeless icons, attracting a clientele enamoured of modern, avant-garde architecture.
In the post-war period, the Housing Units democratised domestic comfort by reproducing a series of interior spaces distributed according to the scale and functions of the human body. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, they are a precious and unique testimony to a revolutionary housing model.
