Description
Living in Nature
Born from a desire for total immersion in preserved nature, this eco-friendly, timber-framed passive house was designed in 2012 by an architect specializing in bioclimatic construction. Located near Paris, it offers warm spaces that open onto idyllic views of fields and forests.
Set within a 4,500 m² park with direct access to the forest, this single-story home offers a living area of 167 m².
An entryway opens onto a 51 m² cathedral-like living room, facing south, with large glass doors that extend onto a terrace overlooking the garden and forest. On the other side, a window opens onto the wooded inner courtyard, and a skylight provides views of the sky. Fully paneled in light fir, creating a warm atmosphere, this space includes a living room, dining area, and an open kitchen. The night area includes 3 bedrooms, a shower room, and a separate toilet.
A 20 m² room, originally designed as a music lounge with high-quality acoustics and a chapel-like ambiance, can accommodate a suite with a bathroom.
On the opposite side of the central patio, an independent 34 m² space with a shower room has been converted into an office.
The attic is accessible and offers ample storage space.
The property also includes a bike storage area.
The landscaped grounds are pool-ready.
The property enjoys a privileged and highly sought-after location for its tranquility and stunning rolling landscape. It is located a 5-minute drive from Montfort L’Amaury and 30 minutes from Paris, near the Yvelines Golf Club.
A modern take on vernacular design
A sculptural, opaque structure with alternating concave and convex surfaces, the house plays with the vernacular traditions of the region, adopting and reinterpreting local codes. Inspired by the local longhouse design, the structure is folded around a central patio and is organized like a farmhouse. The entire structure is covered with a single tiled roof, providing a cohesive form and creating covered outdoor pathways.
Inside, the living space takes inspiration from a chalet, with brushed fir paneling and inclined surfaces in the main volume. The central courtyard and the south-facing terrace are both the same size as the living room, offering a sense of spatial harmony and continuity with the outdoors. The carefully designed openings create cross-sectional views and panoramic window bands that allow one to see without being seen.
A bioclimatic architecture
With exceptional energy efficiency, this home meets the energy standards of a passive house and follows bioclimatic architectural principles. It is a thoughtfully designed dwelling, respectful of the environment it inhabits, economical in raw materials, functional, and comfortable.
This type of home requires specific considerations in its design, such as a detailed site analysis, a conscientious approach to construction, the implementation of techniques to reduce the building’s environmental impact, and a special focus on thermal, acoustic, and health comfort, as well as functional qualities.
